About the event
After the sold-out success of An Actors’ Playground, we’re giving the people what they want! What A Character is a workshop for actors who want to explore, learn, and exercise techniques to help access character and unpick that golden ideal of ‘transformation’.
Join us at the Royal Exchange for this 3 hour intensive workshop, where you’ll have both the space and guidance to hone a monologue you’re currently learning or currently trying to resuscitate.
As an actor, it’s really important to have a tasty lil speech up your sleeve but sometimes monologues are tough. We’re up there alone for god sake! How are we supposed to access the stakes, the context, the character in those grueling 3 seconds between the ‘whenever you’re ready’, ‘in your own time’, ‘I’ll just take a quick sip of water first’ and clearing our throats!? Don’t even get us started on trying to rehearse it…
